I have no desire to see this movie! I keep wondering is there a middle ground to work with for images of positive regular black women to be shown on screen that falls somewhere between historical aspect of the black women on “The Help” and current tv images of black women on Basketball Wives, Real Housewives ATL and Single Ladies! That’s all I ask!!
I truly respect the history it portrays of black women being maids and taking care of the white families in the south during the era where that was the main job for them. But it isn’t a history that is painted as happy go luck either during Jim Crow era especially! I truly get sick and tired of pandering movies like this that are those “feel good flicks” with happy ending and it’s mixed with a historical timeframe in which it wasn’t really all to the good the lives of black women back then. But I digress. Please listen to what Professor Harris-Perry says!
I am also soo glad to read posts such as Armond White’s review and this one from Jack & Jill Politics that support my views as well!! Included with one of the posts is a letter from the Association of Black Woman Historians!

Lawrence O’Donnell To Host MSNBC 10PM Show

It is a shame that there is no desire to showcase diversity in MSNBC’s primetime spotlight. Rachel Maddow gave a shout out to Lawrence O’Donnell at the end of her June 15th show who is getting a 10p slot for his own show?? I like Lawrence O’Donnell a lot but MSNBC seems to be no different than CNN (exclude Fox news altogether) on lack of diversity in their tv hosts. Hell the only diversity they got is a white lesbian and everyone else primetime between 6p on down is white and male!! Why is having diverse voices on cable news such a problem between CNN and MSNBC to have???
Why can’t someone who is black or hispanic or asian be able to tell their stories from a black or hispanic or asian perspective (that aren’t given MSM coverage) in the same way Maddow address issues related to gay community (such as gay marriage and don’t ask don’t tell) on her show ON THE REGULAR!! Any news about those two subjects or anything that involves gays and politics that make the news coverage she will cover it and have a vent about it later on her show that night (that is a given). So why can’t the same be done of someone hired in a news slot who is hispanic/black/asian to do the exact same thing Maddow does from their perspective?? If anyone can reach out to me and send me MSNBC’s email address of who my exact comments on this subject go to please met me know!!! Someone needs to tell them about their butts and hypocrisy!!! For those of you who are cheering on this issue and blind to the facts of MSNBC’s lack of diversity on their programming I feel sorry for your ignorance you share along with the MSNBC decision making heads!!!
